Dialogue in the Labyrinth
A dedication to all who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease
Written by Sandra S Daccarett
What is this change going on in me? Who are these people around me? Where is my soul mate, my protector? Where are my children? Why do I feel so lost? I’M STILL A HUMAN BEING WITH GOALS AND DREAMS. My heart is pumping inside of me.
I have a desire to love and be loved. The journey might almost be over, But I’m still alive.
I can still laugh, I can still cry.
I can still be there for you if only you need me a little.
To my nurse:
You feel overwhelmed; let me help you for that Road I traveled already.
I still can offer you a helping hand.
I have so much to share with you,
If only you could take the time to see me.
The nurse:
I see you. I see you are beautiful. I see you are unique. I thank my creator for blessing me with your presence. How blessed I am to have found you!
You open your heart for me to enter. You want to share your world with me. I’m here with you. I’m listening. Don’t be afraid.
Your presence brightens my day, routine to a musical and spiritual ritual
For we are connected now.
Your smile and your kindness direct my practice. You warm up my heart. You tell me I’m valuable to you. You help me be who I am now. You are here. Come, hold my hand.
Let us travel this journey together. Dedicated to a patient of mine with Alzheimer.
